Sweetie Pie is a 4-year-old Chihuahua, weighing 8lbs. Sweetie recently arrived from our Texas shelter partner where she was abandoned after her owner no longer wanted to care for her. She is a very sweet but scared girl. Sweetie will need a quiet home where she can learn to trust again. She is … allowing some petting and will generally not approach to close. She very much wants to trust and I believe she will get there with time and patience. Sweetie is allowing more approaching and allowing her foster mom to pick her up on occasion. Sweetie will go out to a fenced area on her own and return in. A fenced area will be a huge benefit or using pee pads inside until the weather is warmer and she gains your trust for a leash or tie out. Outside she would be a major flight risk without a fenced area and the fear of using a leash. Her foster mom will be working with her on leash skills as Sweetie gets more confident. Sweetie is a sweet and special girl and will make a wonderful companion if given the love, time and patience. Sweetie is crate trained and does very well with other dogs, cats and kids that let her be. Letting her come to you instead of chasing or scaring her will be key to building her confidence.
