About Tassels aka Sasha – not at shelter

Looks like it’s time for us to introduce a very special girl, Tassels, a.k.a. Sasha. She has been in foster care for a month, because she needed someone really understanding who could help her explore her need to react without knowing why she was reacting. Reactivity in puppies is generally not too difficult to redirect when you know what you are doing, but she was a slight bit of a challenge initially. Lunging and growling at strangers out of fear of the unknown can mean biting later on if it is not redirected. We are glad to see that her awesome trainer/foster mom has made huge progress, and Tassels can now go into Petsmart and Petco without feeling like she has to be defensive. When you look at her, you might see a German Shepherd, and it might surprise you to know that she weighs 50 pounds at five months, and is actually supposed to be a mix of German Shepherd and Chesapeake Bay retriever. We see it. Her feet are giant, her body is giant, and those ears! They go on forever! She’s going to need an active adopter, willing to continue her positive reinforcement training, supported by the trainer currently helping her. She loves the water, as you can see from the photo of her in the river. She loves other dogs, and has wonderful play skills with them. Small children would be way overwhelmed by her exuberance. This smart girl reacts beautifully to treats, praise, and love. We look forward to seeing her growth, both personality, wise, and in body.
