About Merlot

Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time. Merlot is a 2.5-year-old, spayed female Cattle dog/Pitbull mix, 36 pounds. She is in a foster home in Houston, Texas and can transport to an approved adopter. Please note she is physically located in the state of Texas and able to transport to the city listed. Merlot is a really great dog! One of our partner rescues spotted her at a crowded Texas shelter and scooped her up. They asked us to help find her a forever home. She shares a home with lots of small dogs (Chihuahua’s mostly). She has been around dogs of all sizes, but prefers dogs on the smaller size. She is a lover and not real interested in rough housing/hard play with bigger dogs. She is on the submissive side. She has no reactions when seeing other dogs or people out on walks. She would do great in a home with a dog about her size or smaller. She would also do well as the only dog too. She has met cats and seems more afraid of them and then will bark. We recommend a home with no cats. Merlot has been around a 14-year-old child and we think she would do great with kids. She does not jump up and is on the lower energy side. She could use additional training with her leash walking. She does not pull, but needs to build some more confidence. She tends to stay close by. She is house broken. She was not a big fan of her crate at first, but in time has adjusted and has no issues. Merlot is moderate energy – she would be great going on walks, hikes, runs etc but is also able to hang out in the house. She does not need to “burn” off energy daily, but does need some physical stimulation. She has the cutest ears! She is fairly laid back. She is great with meeting new people. She rides great in the car. She is very sweet and really loves people! We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog’s exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. Out-of-town pets are cared for by non-local organizations who can make arrangements for the pet to be transported to your area.
