About Izzy

“Hello my name is Izzy! I am a Taurus and I like long walks on the beach and cheese. I think I am a Flat Coated Retriever/Border Collie/Corgi/Basset Hound type mix. Honestly, I don’t know what I am, but my torso is long like a Basset Hound and I’ve got adorable short little legs with black and white speckled feet. I have longer hair on my back that feathers like Farrah Fawcett’s hair. I have pom poms on my ears and gold highlights in my black fur. I was found in Texas as a stray with my mom last winter. I probably didn’t have a lot of positive human contact while I was on the run. I am so shy and skittish. I instantly felt at ease with my dog and cat friends in my foster home, but I am learning to trust humans. I am interested in the cats and when they run and I chase them, the humans tell me no and ruin my fun. I of course stop and look at the humans with disdain. My foster Mom and Dad are working with me to let me know that humans are good and I am safe. I run into my kennel when I am unsure but I am doing this less and less. I do like to jump on the couch next to humans and don’t mind if you pet me. I love taking naps with humans in their bed and snuggle up. I get nervous when humans stand up or make fast moves. I am not keen on a harness or walking on a leash. I immediately drop down and find a corner to feel safe in. I will need someone with the patience to work with me on this. I am good in the car and don’t get sick but I am still really unsure about the world. I know how to sit and take my treats very delicately. Did I mention food? I love food! I love ham, my dog food, treats, and chicken. I like to chase after sticks and the ball, but I run after it and then drop it. I think it’s amusing to see my humans fetch it for me. I recently discovered one of my toys squeaks when I chew on it and this annoys the humans. It’s my favorite toy now. I love being outside and smelling everything in the yard. I am really curious and love to investigate sounds and smells. I need to go to a home with other dogs please. I learn from them and feel at ease with them. I am not pushy and will get the hint if the other dog doesn’t want to play with me. I would also prefer a fenced yard. And I really need a patient human family. I am so skittish and am just now associating humans with positive experiences. I have made a lot of progress in the few weeks I have been here, but I have a long way to go. I probably would be afraid of little kids as sometimes they are fast and unpredictable. Maybe any kids over the age of 12 years old? I would thrive in a home that is a bit quieter vs a busy household. My foster mom says that I have so much potential and I am smart. I want to learn and I have hope for humans to be good to me. I just need humans to consistently reaffirm to me that they are ok and safe. The more positive experiences I have the more I will trust.” Adoption Fee: $525 + applicable tax.
