CANDY

About CANDY

Dare we say it? This girl is as sweet as her name. (yep…we said it) One of the perils, when running a rescue, is having a friend who works a rural mail route, on the local reservation. There just seems to be a never ending supply of dogs, needing help on her route and Candy is the latest one. Candy was dumped, along with what was probably two female siblings, earlier in the year. Puppies were born to this group of dumped dogs and it was thought that Candy was one of the dogs that gave birth and that the puppy that arrived with her, that was horribly starved, (the only surviving one) was one of hers but a vet exam and quick spay, showed that Candy had never been pregnant and had probably never even been in heat. This information means that Candy, while originally thought to be about two years old, is really only about ten months old. After just a few days in foster, where she got some much needed food and rest, (she was exhausted and starving) it became obvious this girl was still very much a puppy – not in a bad way. She just conducts herself around other dogs, in a super submissive manner and loves playing with all the other 4-5-month-old puppies living in her foster home with her. We can’t say for sure, if Candy possesses any Border Collie or Whippet genetics but based on her looks, that is what we are going with. She is streamlined and built for speed, loves to run, loves to play and is very smart and teachable. She loves to carry toys around and challenges the other dogs to chase her, while she runs ahead smiling and holding her stuffy. She came to us with no training skills and has quickly learned housebreaking, crate training, leash skills and manners. She is naturally still a work in progress but she is an excellent student and a natural born pleaser, so training is easy. She is treat, toy and praise driven, so the trifecta of incentives. At the moment Candy weighs 45 very lean pounds. She has put on weight and covered her hips and back bone, so she probably should not get much bigger and will be a naturally lean dog. She would be an excellent companion for the adventurous sort but while loaded with good energy, she does not bounce off the walls with it. She can turn it off when needed but given her genetics, a home where her energy is an asset, would make her the happiest. She was not born to be a couch potato but would try to be, for her person, which would be a shame and not the best use of her talents. Candy currently resides in a home with horses, a variety of sizes, genders and breeds of dogs and two cats. She is friends with all, though she was a bit skeptical about the horses at first. She loves kids and would make a great family dog. She can jump a four foot fence with ease and if given a foot hold, will go over a six footer, but not to seek adventure. Only to seek you. So not a dog you will be able to leave outside when gone and especially not, if you use dog doors. If you would like to meet this gorgeous, talented, kind and intelligent girl, please submit our online application. We are hoping to place Candy in a home filled with love and adventure, where she will thrive. If that is you, we want to read your application. Candy is spayed, up to date on five way and rabies vaccinations, micro-chipped, flea free and has been fecal checked and treated for the findings. She is the picture of health, filled with love and ready for forever, with her person or family.
