Amber

About Amber

We’re thinking Amber is a Husky mix (maybe some shepherd as well) and are estimating a 11/24/22 DOB. She weighed 18 lbs as of 2/22 when she got her 1st set of puppy shots and she’s likely to grow to be over 50 lbs. She’s a smart, playful puppy, excited about everything and ready to play at a moment’s notice. Sometimes the excitement just overcomes her and she has to jump and run as fast as she can (and she’s fast). She loves to be right by her foster mom and when play time ends she’s content to just lay at her feet. She’s a little vocal as you would expect with a Husky mix but she settles down quietly after just a few minutes had doesn’t generally bark much. House training: She’s pretty good on house training as long as I’m consistent in taking her out regularly. If I get lazy and wait for her to tell me she needs to potty, she hasn’t quite learned to speak up yet. Quiet/alone time: She does very well when confined to her puppy pen. She sleeps through the night in a separate room without much complaint. Behavior and commands: She walks well on a leash, she’s good about staying on my left side and doesn’t pull very much. She knows “sit” and “stay” and is pretty good at waiting for “eat” before she eats food placed in front of her. She understands the commands but is still working on her ability to be patient and wait for the command. We’re working on learning “down” and “release” when we’re playing tug and I want her to let go of the toy. She’s smart and very attentive when we’re training, especially for a puppy her age. She is currently in the puppy chewing stage and has not learned yet that she has to play more gently with humans than with other dogs. Other pets and children: She’s good with the 3 dogs in her current foster home which are a very senior dog who’s 4 times her size, a 1-year-old who is twice her size and likes to play hard, and a 6-year-old who’s almost 4 times her size. There are no small dogs, cats or other animals in the home. We haven’t seen her with children but believe she’d be fine with kids old enough to understand how to avoid puppy teeth. Until she’s had more training and/or outgrown the puppy nipping stage, homes with very young children might not be the best for her. To meet or potentially adopt Amber fill out an application today.
