Let us share the heartfelt story of Umami, a dog who has overcome tremendous challenges. Rescued from the streets and brought to a municipal shelter, Umami initially won the hearts of the staff with his sweet nature. However, the stress of kennel life took its toll on him, causing him to act out … and snap at the staff. Sadly, they reached a point of fear, and the heartbreaking decision to euthanize him was made. It was in the nick of time that Madres Mutts swooped in to save him. Umami had already been sedated and was moments away from the euthanasia room. From the very first moment he came under our care, we witnessed a transformation in Umami. Gone was the troubled dog from the shelter, replaced by a gentle soul who craves the company of his humans. Well, except for car rides – those he strongly dislikes. Umami has never had the opportunity to learn proper manners or leash etiquette. He requires a patient and understanding individual with the knowledge, experience, and time to train him. In return, Umami will be a loyal companion and forever best friend. He’s highly intelligent and motivated by food. Currently living on a 2.5-acre ranch alongside 25 other dogs, Umami prefers the company of dogs his size and enjoys spirited games of tag. While he may not be fond of puppies or small dogs, he simply tries to avoid them. Toys capture his interest, and he relishes the fresh air and being near his humans during the day. At night, he seems afraid of the dark and prefers to stay indoors. Umami is undoubtedly a lover at heart. We estimate him to be around 1 1/2 years old.
