Michael

About Michael

Michael, Mikey boy or Mikey Mike is a small fox. He is 5 years old and weighs about 12 lbs. Before OMD: Breeder release to the rescue. Energy level: Low-medium. Key descriptors: Timid. Quiet. Low maintenance. Independent. Relationship style: Long-distance lover. He’s a very independent guy but likes to keep tabs on what you’re doing around the house. Love language: Probably receiving gifts. Definitely not physical touch. If you’re looking for a cuddly dog to snuggle, hug, and generally dote on, Michael is not your man. Stranger Danger Level: Extremely high. Strangers are scary and he’s not one to rush into things. He’s overall an under-socialized dude so new people and places are a lot to take in. Really, really, really hates: Being picked up. It’s a tossup if you’ll get his flight reaction (freeze like a statue) or fight reaction (a snap). Being picked up also includes handling him to get his harness or collar on (this almost always results in a snap). What makes us laugh: When he catches your gaze with his puppy dog eyes and his two bottom teeth stick out. When he approaches you from behind, so closely and quietly, that when you turn around, you will trip over him before realizing he is even there. Sneaky little fluff-ball! It’s an honor when: You’ve been on your best behavior, and he decides he would like to sit near you on the couch or approach you when you are at his level. When he gives kisses once he has deemed you his person! What he loves most: Stuffed toys, cheese, boiled chicken and beef lungs are all the rage! (Although, watch your fingers, he has yet to understand the art of gentle treat taking).Throwing toys… any toy will do. He’s still deciding if the return part interests him. What he knows: Does “freeze” count? If so, he’s an expert. Kids: Definitely not. Dogs: Yes, but with two caveats: (1) he would prefer a companion rather than a playmate, as he is not very playful and not a fan of overly energetic dogs in his face; (2) he is on his worst behavior meeting dogs on leash and will snap. Cats: Unknown. House-trained: Unfortunately, no. Crate-trained: Yes, but will vocalize his displeasure at times. He does not need to be crated as long as you have a plan for accidents! Ideal Home: An experienced, quiet, low-activity home. People who can appreciate his need for space. Someone who will meet him with patience and love him for who he is. He will warm up, he will love you, he will even give kisses but all on his timeline. If he is pushed, it will just set him back further. Michael is vaccinated, heartworm negative, micro-chipped, and neutered. He is available for adoption to residents of IL, CT, and their respective surrounding states.
