About Hermione

Hermione lives in Wayside’s Canine Behavior Center now. Please call 816-986-4426 to schedule a time to meet her. She is enrolled in a training program and can’t live in apartments. She requires fenced in yard and is housetrained (potty-trained). She can go home with other dogs and must meet adopter’s current dog(s) before going home. Hermione can go home with children over the age of 6 and also must meet all family members before going home. Some of Wayside’s pets are eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10-day in-home trial period pre-adoption. ”Hi there, I’m Hermione! I am loyal and affectionate and shy and quirky. The last couple months have been quite a whirlwind for me. Every single thing in my life is new and strange and scary. I’ve come so far, but starting over in life is one of those things that takes time and work and patience. If you have that, and if you truly want to make a huge difference in the life of a gentle and sweet soul, then I just might be the dog for you. Someone needs me in their life, right? I hope maybe that someone is you! I am a beautiful, 2-year-old, 44-pound bundle of sweetness, with an expressive, darling face, gentle eyes, and an engaging, lovely personality. I’m already fully housebroken too. I was transferred to Wayside from a rural shelter in Tennessee, along with my adorable puppies. It was a long journey for us to get here. A farmer in Tennessee found my puppies in a field, where I had placed them in a hole I dug, hoping to keep them safe and warm. He rescued them and took them to the local shelter, where they were cared for and loved. I didn’t understand any of that though. I just knew my puppies were gone and I was so afraid. I finally made my way to the same shelter. They didn’t have room for all of us, so they reached out to Wayside. We were then welcomed to Kansas City with open arms, and my puppies have all since found homes of their own. Meanwhile, I’ve been learning all about life as a family dog in a loving foster home. My foster parents care so much about me and they make me feel safe and special, even as I still worry and struggle with my insecurities. Everything about life in a home is new to me, including hallways and doorways and hardwood floors and dishwashers and so much more. It can be exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. I’ve worked hard to overcome my fears in my foster home. I will need you to give me plenty of time and grace and patience in my new home as well. Please let me go at my own pace. I’m a sensitive soul, so it’s important that you never be harsh with me. Instead, if you gently praise and encourage me when I’m a good girl, I will learn what you expect from me as my confidence grows. My house manners are excellent. I don’t bother a thing, even when no one is home. I love to lounge on the couch or watch out the window for squirrels in the backyard. I am affectionate and cuddly with my foster parents. Once we bond, I love to curl up next to you or lift my paw to you, clumsily tipping over for a good belly rub. I love making people smile with my silly Scooby-Doo vocals and my puppy-like antics. I’m just a really nice friend to spend your day with. I’m looking for a special home. I like calm and quiet and peace. I walk on a leash, but I’m afraid to go out into the neighborhood quite yet and I am a flight risk, so I will need a securely fenced yard to help me stay safe. I absolutely adore the other dog I live with in my foster home, but I can be picky and awkward with other dogs too. I’d love a home with a friendly, confident, low-key dog who could teach me and show me the way as I navigate through my new life. With the right home though, I could be happy as your only dog as well. I will need a home with respectful kids over the age of 6 and I need to meet the whole family, including kids and other dogs, before we go home together, to make sure we’re all a great match for each other. I’ve been through so much, and I’m happy that my Wayside friends are working hard to find a home that I will thrive in. It’s incredible how life can change with a simple act of kindness from a stranger. Just a couple months ago, I was all alone in the world with a litter of beautiful puppies to care for. What would their future hold? What would my future hold? Now here I am, on the cusp of a brand new life. I just have one more important leg of my journey. It is to find you and to shower you with unconditional love every single day. I’m ready and I hope you are too! Love, Hermione P.S. I’m back at the shelter now. Please stop out to see me!” Please call our Adoptions Department if you are interested in this animal to make certain she is still available for adoption! ADOPTION INFORMATION: All Wayside Waifs pets are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations prior to adoption. Please note that in order to make the best match possible, potential adopters must come to the Wayside Waifs in person to meet with an adoption counselor and complete the adoption process. All members of the household (including other pets, if possible) should be present to ensure the chosen pet is compatible with everyone.
