“Hello, I’m Duke! I’m about a 5-8-year-old American Bulldog mix (at least that’s what my rescuer’s think) and I’m looking for my furever match. I was rescued from a very scary doggie jail and I didn’t even do anything to deserve it! I have always been on my very best behavior and I aim to please my … humans! My foster mom says whoever chooses me will be the luckiest family because she knows how special I really am!! Please say that’s you! I don’t mind other dogs and could probably live with them without issues but If I had a choice I would maybe choose to be an only pet, it’s more chill that way and since I’m an older, wiser guy, I prefer to avoid any and all drama! I’m not picky though and I’m willing to give anything a try! In fact, my rescuers said they could send me home with my potential new family as a trial period to make sure I am a good fit for you, your family, and your other pets! My rescuers say that it’s their number one priority to make sure every adoption is the absolute best fit for everyone involved, pups included! I think I would even be perfect for someone looking for a calm, mature guy like myself or even a senior citizen who needs some company. I’m not sure how I got here. One minute I’m with my family that I loved and protected and the next, I’m locked up in a jail cell with hundreds of other dogs who were just as scared and confused and me. I was told they were going to kill me if no one came to save me. As the days turned into nights, I grew more scared, nervous and downright depressed… It was RUFF! I didn’t want to die, I still had so much love left to give someone and I didn’t want to lose hope of being loved once again. All my life I have always tried to be the best good boy out there. I know ‘sit’, ‘shake’, ‘lay down’, ‘speak’, etc. I’m crate/ potty trained, have no bad puppy habits like chewing or jumping etc. and I am very food motivated, making me highly motivated to learn new things!! I thought I was doing everything I could to make my humans happy but I guess it wasn’t enough for them. Thankfully, a kind lady came to that scary dog jail to save me and when they opened my jail cell she put her arms around me and told me I would never have to worry about coming back there again. I had a small mass that was surgically removed and it was not cancerous, thank goodness for that right? I’m as good as new! Physically, I have healed but my heart has one family-sized hole in it and I’m hoping it will heal too, once I find my Furever Match. After all, that’s my life’s purpose as man’s best friend and all! I don’t deserve to spend the last years of my life alone, wondering why I’m not good enough.
