Billie

About Billie

Billie cam to use back in November in rough shape along with her sister Lacy and Nova. Unlike Lacy, we were able to help Billie. After an x-ray at the vet, it was determined that this young girl had 2 old breaks in her leg that never healed properly. She pushed through the pain though, and was a super happy and friendly girl. Originally it was thought that her leg would need to be amputated, but luckily our amazing vet was able to re-set the break and we crossed our fingers it would heal properly and this girl could keep her leg. Fast forward to mid-January and Billie’s splint has been removed, and her leg seems to be healing well! Billie is still on bed-rest for a few more weeks, so we have yet been able to see her true personality. With that said, here is what we know about Billie as she has been healing. Billie has had limited exposure to other dogs due to her ongoing condition, but she loves her foster sister and ITAV alumni Smidge, and we are pretty confident that she will get along great with other dogs. Billie is interested in the resident cat and like to sniff her, and will bark if the cat is in a place where she cannot get to, however no aggression towards the cat has been noted, and would likely do well with dog-savvy cats. Billie is great with the kids that live in her foster home, and goes to wake them up every morning by crawling into their bed for some cuddles and kisses. Billie is fully house-trained, and loves her crate at night for sleeping! Billie likes to counter-surf, so her family will need to ensure dangerous items are not within her reach until she is trained to not get her little paws up there! Billie will do well in a home with or without a fenced yard, as long as she has adequate exercise like, walking, jogging, dog park or running around on a long leash. Billie has shown some separation anxiety when left alone in her crate, so she would need a family that would be home more often than not, until she can be trusted to be left uncrated when her family is out. Since Billie has been on bed-rest for the majority of the time she has been in our care, we do not have a full grasp on what her energy level is like, but most likely medium to high energy, and would do great in an active family where she can be part of all the fun! Billie is currently mouthing a lot, which is most likely a combination of her age, and her being confined while her leg is healing, training will be required to curb this behavior as she grows, but will most likely improve once she is able to run around and get all her energy out again. Billie had a rough start and is shy when meeting to people, especially with men, but given some time she warms up to them and is the sweetest girl ever!
