Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs – your understanding is appreciated. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for – we do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog. You must be approved to adopt Benny before we will schedule a meet and greet with him. We do not transport our dogs. We expect approved adopters to visit him in his foster home within a short period of time of being approved to adopt him. Our adoption process involves vet and personal reference checks, phone interviews, a home visit, an adoption contract and an adoption fee. A physical secure fence and yard are required. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered as we do not feel these would set Benny up for success. He would love a pool to swim in; he is obsessed with any bodies of water! He has lower-shedding curly coat that will need regular brushing and grooming. His new family should be prepared for the expense ($100) of having him groomed every few months. He is high energy. He has puppy energy in a large body! He requires a lot of daily exercise and will need several daily walks and playing and would love to go swimming. He loves to be chased around the yard with a toy. He is still very much a puppy! He does amazing with the 3 dogs in his foster home. He does annoy the more passive dog wanting to play with her all the time. He would be best suited in a home with another young playful dog who has the same level of playfulness he has. He does not need another dog if his adoptive family ensures his exercise needs are met. He went to boarding when he was with his prior owner and did very well and played a lot with other dogs. He goes straight to playing when he would go to boarding. He is excited and wants to play play play! No exposure to cats in his foster or prior homes. Kids 10+ are ok. He loves everyone he meets; however, he may be too much dog for little ones and accidentally knock them down. He is very polite inside with children but could accidentally knock them down outside when he is running in the yard. He does well in the car without any anxiety. He isn’t crated in his foster home. He does occasionally go in to his crate and lay down and relax. He is house trained and will bark to let you know he needs to go outside. Benny is excellent on a Gentle Leader head halter. He is amazing! With a regular harness and collar he will pull. He did great at vet clinic! He loves to get bathed, loves water in any form. He hasn’t been to the groomer while in his foster home. Beautiful Benny was surrendered to IDOG by his family who loved him very much. Their jobs shifted and they felt Benny would be happier with a family who was home more with him; their very long hours required him to be boarded or be alone for up to 12 hours sometimes. Benny is super people-oriented and a lover and would love to have a family who is home more to spend time with him and help him get his energy expended. He would not do well being left alone all day. Ideally a family who works from home or stays at home to be with him is best for his happiness. He has a lot of energy and also is a big lap dog! He runs like a horse so a fenced in yard would be perfect for him. If you have a pool that would be icing on the cake because he is crazy obsessed with any water. He knows “sit”, “down”, “paw” and “stay”. He does like to eat paper products but doesn’t eat furniture! Benny likes to cuddle at the end of the day after his energy is expended. He loves to play chase with toys and is a good swimmer. He isn’t startled by loud noises, storms, vacuuming. He is just a great energetic fun puppy who is looking for his forever home!
