Austin is a 3-year-old, neutered male Pitbull mix, 60 pounds. He is in a foster home in San Antonio, Texas and can transport to an approved adopter. Austin is a very happy and playful dog! He nearly lost his life at an overcrowded shelter in Texas. We discovered shortly after arriving to his foster home, that he is deaf. This does not slow him down or keep him from being a loveable guy. There is no additional training you need, just an awareness that he needs to see you in order to respond to you! Austin is very dog friendly. He has been around several different dogs and he loves to play. We think he would love another dog in the home and one who enjoys wrestling or running around. He has gone to dog parks as well and loves to make friends. He fetches the ball and likes to play tag. One area he could use some work – he does pull on leash. His foster home is working with him, but something he will need continued guidance. Austin has met kids outside the home and was very kind to them. He is playful and with not being able to hear, could accidentally knock over a small child. We think a home with kids 10 years and older would be best. He is housebroken and overall does well in his crate. He is moderate energy and will do best in a home who is somewhat active. He would do great with another dog who enjoys playing. He is crated when unsupervised as he does like to chew. He is a huge fan of Kong toys and treats and occupy him for hours. He is so loving and affectionate. He picks up on facial expressions and hand motions. He very much wants to “listen” and is observant of his people. He loves all people and other dogs he has met. There is a fountain in the foster’s backyard and he enjoys using that as his water bowl. Austin would love a home who is understanding of his hearing needs. A home that will provide him some physical outlets. He does not need another dog in the home, but would get along well with a playful dog. He continues to work on basic manners and would do best in a home with structure. Listed BREED and AGE – We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog’s exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. Out-of-town pets are cared for by non-local organizations who can make arrangements for the pet to be transported to your area.
