Bella

About Bella

Bella is a beautiful girl looking for a new home. She does well with cats, but not dogs, so she needs a home where she can be the only dog. She’s in San Antonio, TX. If you’re interested in Bella, please email [email protected]. Bella has a $400 rehoming fee. This is what her current owner says about Bella. Bella is a 12-year-old female Pom / sheltie mix. Bella was rescued by her Mom in Jan 2022. She lived with her Mom for 13 months. Her Mom died in a horrible accident and Bella then came to live with me in March of 2023. Bella lived with her Mom and a cat and was thriving, She previously came from a puppy mill where she lived in a small cage with a cat for 10 years and was severely neglected and abused. She was used solely for breeding purposes until she developed a mammary tumor and was no longer able to be bred and was turned into a shelter along with the cat she was caged with. Bella weighs about 13 pounds. She has been spayed and the mammary tumor was removed. She has also had a recent dental. All recent labs were WNL. She’s up to date on all vaccines. Bella is pee pad trained at night and goes without a diaper. During the day she wears a diaper due to some leaking of urine with activity, the vet says from being bred so much her belly muscles, etc., are weak and she has poor control. She was given Estrogen for 8 months to try to help with the leaking but it did not help so the med was stopped. She is completely submissive and allows me to wash her belly and bottom nightly and as needed and never complains. She has a good appetite. She is a very gentle loving girl who loves to be held, loves belly rubs, and any kind of attention. She does well on a leash. My reason for rehoming is because Bella and my dogs do not get along. Bella has never been around other dogs except at the breeding farm. When she lived with my friend, she had a cat as a friend but no dogs. She is shy and timid when meeting new people, but warms up a few minutes after introduction. She is also afraid of sirens, thunder, fireworks, and sometimes even loud noises like the doorbell or phone ringing. When I got Bella and brought her out of her new home, a familiar territory, she was afraid of everything, but we have come so very far and she is doing a lot better. I can honestly say Bella is an angel, except with other dogs. She can be fine and lay in a pile with my 2 dogs sleeping, then if she gets startled, she will go after my dogs, I believe, out of fear. I have been working with her for 9 months without success with getting the 3 dogs to live together peacefully. I believe Bella needs a forever home with no other animals, and if possible someone retired, or at least someone who is home more than they are away. Coming from the tortured life she had living in a cage to a home with me with 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a bird, “in her space”, is just not something I believe she is going to adjust to, even with more time. BTW, my bird is free flighted and Bella pays no attention to her at all. Nor does she bother my cats. There has never been any report by anyone that she has shown any aggression with people before she was rescued, while in the shelter, or with my friend who had her 1st. She goes to the vet regularly as well as the groomer where she is handled by less familiar people and there have never been any problems. We have tried to help Bella with medication. First Trazadone, which did not help, then Prozac, which did not help either. Currently the vet suggested we taper her off all meds to see if maybe now that she has been with me for some time maybe she would do ok without meds, and also she suggested that possibly the Prozac was having an adverse effect on her and may be causing some of the dog aggressive symptoms We are tapering her dose and will continue this until it can be discontinued. She is all I have left of my friend and this is so so difficult for me. But, I realize that the safety of all the animals comes before what I want or need. In order to adopt, you need to send an e-mail to [email protected] asking for an application. After you send this back, we will check references and someone will visit you in your home to discuss adoption. We ask a donation of $400 for adults, and $450 for puppies. This covers shots, spay/neuter, and any medical treatment when needed, such as de-worming, dental, heartworm treatment, and repairing broken bones. We do not ship our Pomeranians, but an out-of-state adoption can still happen if the adopter comes to the San Antonio, TX area to pick up their pom.
