This is Ripcord aka Ripley. Likely a victim of abuse, Ripley came to the Del Norte shelter a shut-down and very, very frightened pup—it took several weeks before staff and volunteers could get him out of the kennel for walks and interaction. With a lot of patience and positive reinforcement in the … way of hot dogs, this incredibly handsome boy slowly began to trust humans and has since learned how to receive affection (he wasn’t sure about being touched before and now he loves gentle pets), how to play and how to just be a dog. Shelter staff discovered Ripley is a stellar retriever and can play ball all day! He also takes treats very gently, knows how to sit, walks well on a leash, and doesn’t seem reactive to other dogs. Because of his rough past and need for slow, patient introductions, Ripley would do best in an adult home with low traffic. He may fare well with another dog sibling if the match is right, though he’s likely going to need that extra love and attention that comes with being an only fur-child.Dogs like Ripley have a very hard time in chaotic shelter environments and need an understanding soul mate to gently remind them that most humans are good and that the world can be full of pleasure and fun. If you’ve got an extra-big heart, a patient and kind personality and the desire to mend the spirit of a very deserving pup, please come meet our boy.
