Jorah

About Jorah

DURING COVID19, we are doing adoptions for locals (Olympic Peninsula) only by appointment. All potential adopters must fill out an adoption application prior to setting up an appointment to meet the animal. An application can be found on our website. We have limited staff during this time, please allow 3-5 business days for us to process your application. We are screening the applications for the first BEST fit for each animal. If you are approved, you will be contacted by us via phone or email.
NAME: Jorah
AGE: About 2 years
WEIGHT: About 70 lbs
BREED(S): German Shepherd mix
REASON FOR ARRIVAL: Arrived as a stray
GENERAL INFO ABOUT PERSONALITY: Jorah is a handsome and fun dog to hang out with. He LOVES playing fetch in the play yard and he will often take a little detour through the kiddie pool upon bringing the ball back to you! Jorah loves the water and will lay down in the pool no matter how dirty the water is or how cold it is outside. Jorah has huge potential to be an awesome dog. He’s an intelligent guy and responds well to commands. He is learning lots of new techniques with clicker training! He will just need a physically strong owner that can handle him, and a mentally strong owner to provide him with calm and assertive leadership. When Jorah sees other dogs, he often gets too excited and will bark especially if through a fence (very typical German Shepherd behavior). We think that his reactivity to dogs comes from a lack of socialization and wanting to play but not knowing how. Like a typical shepherd, he is extremely mouthy, rough and dominant while playing. Due to that, a lot of other dogs don’t like Jorah. However, he has been a great playmate with one very submissive female lab, and he even shares his ball with her. It is possible for Jorah to be good with another dog but it will take a very specific personality and multiple VERY slow introductions. This dog will likely be too much for a novice dog owner, and he really needs someone to be in charge and keep him occupied with lots of activities. He was adopted to be a narcotics detecting dog, however he did not pass their test which is why he is back with us again. Jorah is easily excited and will try to nip at children, so at this time we are looking for a mature household for this gorgeous boy. HE IS NOT AN APARTMENT DOG! Jorah needs plenty of room to play and preferably a homeowner. Activity Level? Medium. Training Needs? Medium. -High House Trained? Yes. Leash Trained? Yes, and clicker trained. Comfortable with kids? Kids 12 an up may be okay. Comfortable with strangers? Generally. History with other dogs? Generally, he is not good but has accepted one dog as a very good playmate. Adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter, initial vaccines, a microchip, rabies vaccine when appropriate, and one free veterinary visit with a local participating clinic.
