About Duke

Duke is a 3-year-old lab mix boy. He’s a very sweet guy and will sometimes give tiny kisses on his person’s hands, arms and legs. He’s not destructive in the house when left alone and is reliably potty trained. If he needs to “GO”, he will let you know. He is a quiet boy, only barking if someone knocks on the door. And he ignores other dogs barking, sirens, thunder, and fireworks do not bother him. But Duke is very timid and will need an adopter that gives him time to feel safe. It took several days for him to trust enough to come through the door without tucking his tail and rushing as fast as he could to get by his foster mom and dad. We think it is important that he go to an all adult home or one with older respectful children. He loves being outside, but only if his human is there. After about a week at his foster home he finally went out in the yard without one of his foster parents with him, but returned quickly to the house…where his humans were. Duke has recently learned to walk on leash…with a harness (he pulls to the point of choking if the leash is attached to his collar). He loves going for a walk, but hold tight in case he sees a rabbit or other animal. Dogs get him so excited he shakes and whines and pulls to go play. He might enjoy living with another dog that is gentle with him. We don’t know how he would be with cats. Most importantly Duke wants to be with his people. He really needs a home where he doesn’t have to be regularly left long hours without human companionship; and a fenced yard (not electric/invisible fence). (A $250 adoption fee is required.) If you are interested in this dog, please fill the adoption application. If you have previously submitted an application form, there is no need to re-apply. Just let us know you’re interested in this dog. We do our best to match families and dogs so everyone is pleased and the placement is permanent. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant if the home situation is incompatible with the needs of the rescue dog. Rescue is about doing our best for the dog. We do home and reference checks. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are up to date with current vaccinations, before being placed in their forever homes. FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! We are always looking for good foster homes. Our rescue is foster based and we can always save more dogs if we have foster homes for them to go into. It is not a long term commitment. We have been able to find good forever homes in a short time. We also welcome volunteers who can help transport dogs and help with our outreach and fund raising efforts. Please contact us if you can help.
