Ben G

About Ben G

NOTE: as of March 17, 2020, our shelter is closed to the general public to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. However, we are still processing adoptions with some important guidelines: we will schedule meet-and-greets by appointment only for pre-screened applicants. This is to reduce the number of people coming into the shelter and the number of visits. If you are interested in this animal, please submit an application form. Ben G is an energetic adult (approx 3 – 5 yrs old) Rottweiler who is looking for a fresh start in life. He came to our shelter after his owner fell on hard times. Ben G definitely has a silly, playful side. He loves to play with toys and run around the play yard. He can be a bit jumpy and over-exuberant. He enjoys his walks out in the neighborhood, and loves a good sniff around. We are looking for a pet-free home for Ben G. He doesn’t love seeing dogs walk by his kennel or the yard, but out on walks, he generally doesn’t react to them. However, he is not an off-leash dog park candidate, so we want to see him in a home where he has a fully fenced yard to play in. Condos and townhouses are not suitable. Some strangers make Ben G nervous. He is great at communicating if he is not comfortable, and will try to avoid if possible. For this reason, we are looking for an adult-only home without a lot of hustle-and-bustle, comings-and-goings. We believe Ben G will benefit greatly from force-free, fun training to help him be the best dog he can be. He is doing very well on his house-training, and should continue to succeed with a consistent routine. Ben G was underweight when he arrived into our care. He can be “grabby” and a pushy when treats are present. These two things could be related, or it just may be that is how he’s always been. We have not seen any food/resource-guarding behaviour, which is promising.
